Rotarian Paul and his wife Cynthia shared their experience walking 800 km on the Camino de Santiago, the "Way of Saint James". The "Camino", as it is commonly called, is the most walked pilgrimage in history, with almost 500,000 people walking each year. The origins of this pilgrimage date back over 1000 years.
There are several camino routes that take pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela, located in northwestern Spain. Paul and Cynthia walked what is referred to the Camino Frances. It starts at the base of the Pyrenes in France, traverses across the entirety of northern Spain, and ends in Santiago de Compostela. Their 33 day walk, averaging about 23 km per day, took them through varied terrain that challenged them in every way.
