Thanks so much for Dr. Brenda Hemmelgarn, Dean, Faculty of Medicine U of A, to share with Club members the challenges in meeting the needs in rural, and particularly northern, Alberta.  Innovative efforts are being put in place to begin to alleviate the shortage of doctors in the north by establishing a "Northern Alberta Medical Program".  By establishing a program where medical students can complete a portion of their education at the new "Northwestern Polytechnic" in Grand Prairie, studies show that students are more likely to stay in the north. The program also is designed to help the province increase the overall number of doctors trained in Alberta.

Great to hear about these efforts to begin to solve a major health services issue.
