Cherilyn Michaels didn't intend to launch and organize an online Facebook platform that helped tens of thousands of Ukrainians arriving in Canada, but one thing leads to another. Starting in April 2022, Cherilyn saw a need to help Ukrainians arriving in Canada. She started by sending information to individuals that were arriving but quickly realized that a Facebook group to share information would be more efficient and effective. She created the Edmonton Hosts Ukrainians Facebook Group. The idea was initially to provide direct support and information to newcomers, but quickly included assistance to locate host families. Services further expanded to include in-person services like airport pickups, help with paperwork, free furniture, help with moving and job leads. The Facebook group now has over 30,000 members and the support is now newcome to newcomer. Since the start of Cherilyn's efforts, over 600 families (1700 people) have been hosted and settled into Edmonton. Thank you Cherilyn for your commitment to helping those most in need.
