Cancelled ...
In order to meet these goals, we need your help in the following ways:
- Contribute - at 40¢ per meal, we need to raise $40,000. We're asking each club to contribute $2,500, or more, if budgets allow. Your Casino dollars can be used for this initiative! Make cheques payable to Charities Aid Foundation of Canada and mail to the District office.
- Volunteer - We need approximately 150 volunteers over a 6 hour time period, three shifts of 2 hours each. This is a great membership drive opportunity to bring your perspective new members.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AND INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ALL IN ONE!
COMMUNITY SERVICE - In an effort to help fight hunger both local and globally, the SHN Committee approached the Edmonton Food Bank to use their warehouse, and in return, hold a food drive to help fill their bins. Interactors and Rotaractors will be doing a door-to-door food bank bag drop, while each club will be given bags to fill when they come for their shift.
INTERNATIONAL SERVICE - Since the launch of STOP HUNGER NOW’s meal packaging program in 2005, Rotarians have packaged 20 million+ meals for distribution around the globe. Rotary is a critical link to helping STOP HUNGER NOW meet the United Nations goal of ending world hunger by 2030. Rotarians are known for achieving ambitious goals, evidenced by Rotary International’s success with its eradication of polio initiative.
The work of STOP HUNGER NOW aligns with the Rotary Foundation's Six Areas of Focus.
- Promoting Peace: When people no longer need to fight over food, peace will reign.
- Fighting Disease: STOP HUNGER NOW meals help to improve the health and nutrition of those who receive them.
- Providing Clean Water: STOP HUNGER NOW invests in water, sanitation and hygiene trainings and technology.
- Saving Mothers and Children: Feeding programs operated by partner organizations promote education, encourage children to attend school and improve health and nutrition.
- Supporting Education: By delivering meals through school feeding programs, children attend school not only to receive an education, but also to receive what could be their only meal of the day.
- Growing Local Economies: STOP HUNGER NOW is seeking Rotary partners to assist with the following sustainable community development projects: Enhance family incomes; Increase access to and production of food; Better management of natural resources; Provide better access to clean water; Support agricultural and aqua-cultural production.
