The Rotary Youth Leadership Experience (RYLE) brings High School aged students from across Rotary District 5370 to Camp Nakamun for a four day leadership developmental camp packed with workshops, speakers, and experiences that build confidence, communities, and empowerment.
On Tuesday February 6th, Zalak Khatri spoke to members about her RYLE adventures. Zalak is a second year science student at the University of Alberta and has been involved with Rotary for 4 years. She was the Vice president of her high school interact club and attended RYLE as a camper in 2021 and 2022 and as a camp counsellor in 2023. Now she is a part of the Committee as an outreach coordinator as well.
Zalak's journey with RYLE started when she was a shy camper in 2019. After attending her first RYLE between grades 11 and 12, she returned to school and joined many school clubs, wanting to get involved like never before. The connections Zalak made at her first RYLE has led to long time friendships. The RYLE format leverages "social development", with experiential learning to build the three C's: Confidence, Cooperation and Community. It was a pleasure to hear Zalak speak so enthusiastically about her RYLE journey. Zalak, and the RYLE planning committee, are now busy planning the next RYLE camp planned for May 2 - 5, 2024.
