Our speaker June 10 was Dr. Adrien Ntwari, a dedicated Rwandan wildlife veterinarian and a true leader in the field of conservation. Dr. Ntwari works with Gorilla Doctors, where he plays a vital role in protecting and caring for some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.
The Riverview club is very familiar with Adrien's work. Riverview Rotary successfully applied for a Global Grant Scholarship that allowed Adrien to study and obtain a MSc in Wildlife Health and Management in 2020. Congratulations Adrien.
Adrien's work is rooted in the One Health philosophy—the understanding that the health of people, animals, and ecosystems are deeply interconnected. Whether he's performing life-saving interventions in the forest, removing snares, treating injured gorillas, or mentoring the next generation of African veterinarians, Dr. Ntwari is on the front lines of both wildlife conservation and community health.
He represents the very best of what can happen when local dedication meets global collaboration. Organizations like the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Society of Canada and Rotary International are proud to support leaders like Dr. Ntwari, who remind us that protecting gorillas means protecting forests, livelihoods, and the future of our shared planet.
