This year’s Computer Science Education Week is coming up quickly from December 6th to the 12th! Focused on data science and #MeMyDataAndI, this year CodeVA is hosting an online LAUNCH event along with an entire virtual week of speakers, family nights, kids activities, competitions, and professional learning sessions for educators. We can’t wait to explore data science with you!

Virginia's Computer Science Education Week (December 6th-10th, 2021) is a week, declared each year by Governor's proclamation, dedicated to celebrating and encouraging students, teachers, and families to engage with computer science. CodeVA, partnered with the VDOE and statewide CSTA chapters, offers an entire virtual week of speakers, kids activities, student competitions with prizes, and PD sessions for educators to get as many people across Virginia using, playing with, and learning about how computer science affects their everyday lives.

The theme for CodeVA’s Computer Science Education week this year is #MeMyDataAndI! Powered by @Facebook and focused on data science, we will explore what existing data can tell us about ourselves and others. Join us to hear from speakers from across how they support data science and what their data says about them. For a schedule of all CS Ed Week LAUNCH events this year and to register, go to codeva.info/CSEdWeek2021.

Every year as part of this event, CodeVA recognizes an outstanding computer science educator from the state of Virginia at Computer Science Education Week. This year, they will be recognizing not just one, but six educators! If you know an outstanding K-12 ITRT / Coach / support personnel, administrator or Pre-K-12th grade educator who goes above and beyond with CS, we want to hear from you! Learn more here: codeva.info/CSEdWeek2021.

CodeVA’s state-wide CS In Your Neighborhood competition invites students from Kindergarten through 12th grade to submit creative “Data Selfies” representing their data footprint including any form of shareable media including: visual art, music, video, or code/web content. You leave behind a digital footprint when you use the internet. That information can be used to learn about you. But what doesn’t data know about you? Learn more, explore, and submit selfies here: codeva.info/CSEdWeek2021.
