What makes learning about conditionals (e.g., if statements) hard?
Colleen Lewis, Associate Professor of computer science (CS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will share an understanding of conditionals that is absolutely essential for helping students understand the computational world around them! While students seem to easily understand the general idea of an if-statement, writing and reading sequences of conditionals can be really challenging! Using examples from Scratch, we'll discuss some of these challenges that our students have experienced, and Colleen will share some of her hypotheses about what makes conditionals challenging for students to learn to use.
