Title: Summer Coding Academy
Presenters: Jasna Aliefendic, Coordinator of Technology, Garland ISD
Session Description: Garland ISD provides students in grades 1-8 with an opportunity to attend the GISD Summer Coding Academy. The program is designed specifically to promote computer science and expose more students to the importance of CS in all branches of industry. Participants will learn about all aspects of the program: curriculum, resources, student enrollment, and budget.

Session Description: Introduction to Lambdas. How to declare and use a Lambda with simple examples that we do together as well as assignments for extra practice (for students). We will also discuss how they will be tested on the UIL contest written test.

Session Description: Are you looking for a new way to bring coding to your classroom? Sphero bots are a great way to introduce JavaScript block-based or text-based programming to your classroom. Bring your Chromebook, or iPad to this hands-on session. We’ll be learning some introductory programming skills.

Session Description: AWS provides educators and students with free cloud services through AWS Educate. Learn what to do (and what not to do) when setting up an AWS Educate classroom.

Session Description: Computer Science for grades K-12 is growing at an alarming rate. We have a plethora of courses to offer our students in grades 9-12. The elementary and middle schools are starting to teach computer science concepts. With this in mind, what is the proper or ideal "pathway" for a student who chooses to pursue computer science? For math, science, English, and social studies, there is a set suggested course pathway. What does it look like for CS? What has your school/district adopted?
For this session, we'd like for the attendees to provide their input on this matter. This is something that should be discussed and shared with fellow colleagues. The more open we are to sharing, the better prepared we are to grow computer science across the state.
