Many of us aim to support students in pursuing creative programming projects, but it can be challenging to understand what students have made by working on those projects. In this one-hour session, we’ll explore a report entitled Assessing Creativity in Computing Classrooms, which contains some of the stories and reflections from 80 PK–12 teachers across the U.S., as well as 50 assessment examples used in their classrooms. We’ll discuss strategies for assessing creative programming projects and consider how to apply strategies to our own contexts.

About the Presenter

Paulina Haduong is a fifth-year doctoral candidate in Human Development, Learning, and Teaching and a research associate with the Creative Computing Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Paulina’s dissertation work focuses on supporting students and teachers in learning computing together and building supportive classroom communities. The Creative Computing Lab at HGSE supports K–12 teachers in designing computer science learning experiences that foreground creativity, self-expression, and problem solving, across grades and subject areas. Through our research and outreach activities, we aim to enable a diverse range of young people to imagine themselves as computational creators.
