The New York Athletic Club was founded in 1868 to bring structure to the nascent world of amateur sport. In its journey through the ensuing decades, the NYAC has evolved to become an athletic powerhouse, globally renowned in sports such as wrestling, fencing, judo, water polo, rowing and track and field. Concurrently, the NYAC has become a part of the cultural fabric of New York City, hosting banquets, receptions and weddings, welcoming leaders in the world of business, politics and the arts to its magnificent dining room and 187 overnight guest rooms.

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were the most successful in NYAC history, as 69 NYAC members maintained the Club's tradition of top-class performances on the world's biggest stage. These athletes claimed a grand total of 36 medals—12 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze.
