About Us

CSTA Central Illinois was founded in the summer of 2020. Computer Science education in Illinois is lacking and those that do teach CS need a way to connect - we're doing that here! We are supported by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Knox College. If you would like to join us, please join via your CSTA login or contact us below.

Bryan Hartman

President

Bryan taught middle school math and Algebra for eight years before transforming Monticello Middle School's computer class into 100% Computer Science in January of 2018. He has two elementary age children and enjoys running and cycling.

Coleen Lewis

Treasurer

Colleen Lewis is an Assistant Professor of CS at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She researches equitable and efficient teaching practices and curates CSTeachingTips.org, a project for disseminating effective CS teaching practices.

Jennifer Smith

Secretary

Jennifer Smith teaches eighth grade science at Monticello Middle School. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in her sixteenth year of teaching. In addition to teaching, Jennifer sponsors the eighth-grade science club and supervises the middle school makerspace.
