Started in 2009, the Iowa STEM Teacher Externship Program provides opportunities where teachers are partnered with a workplace host in their community where they apply classroom content to projects completed for the host for 5-6 weeks in the summer. Externs are paid $20/hr for 200-240 hours, and earn 3 graduate credits paid for by the program. The summer schedule is arranged with the host, and is usually flexible in terms of short vacations or other commitments.

VMware is a cloud hosting service that is located in California but has employees throughout the US, including in Iowa. Their Chief Data Officer, located in Des Moines, is seeking a business and/or computer science teacher to work on analytical problems and to run project management for analytical teams. These two teachers will work with the Head of Data Analytics & Insights, Seema Singhal. Teachers will be remote--work from home, during the externship.

If you are interested in this opportunity please follow this link to apply to be an extern this summer. Your application will be sent to the host and they will determine the best candidate to meet the needs they have for the summer. Other opportunities may develop in your area, or you may suggest other potential hosts on the application. Applying does not guarantee you an externship experience, but feel free to email me for an update on placement.
