Courageous Service Award​​

This award shall constitute recognition of courageous service on the part of an employee(s) in the water utility or wastewater utility profession. To be eligible for this award the individual(s) must, within the past 12 months, as the result of extraordinary and/or catastrophic events, have demonstrated acts of dedication to their profession, so as to ensure and maintain the provision of water and wastewater services to the community(ies) they serve, in circumstances where they have placed the needs of said community above their own safety and well-being. 

Purpose
This award shall constitute recognition of courageous service on the part of an employee(s) in the water utility or wastewater utility profession.

Military duty, in and of itself, while certainly commendable and honored, will not be considered for this award.

Nominee Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this award the individual(s) must, within the past 12 months, as the result of extraordinary and/or catastrophic events, have demonstrated acts of dedication to their profession, so as to ensure and maintain the provision of water and wastewater services to the community(ies) they serve, in circumstances where they have placed the needs of said community above their own safety and well-being.

Each award may be presented to an individual member of any grade of VA AWWA or VWEA membership or an employee of any water or wastewater utility, whether or not that utility holds membership in AWWA or VWEA.

The Virginia Section AWWA award requirements match the AWWA National award requirements. This will allow VA Section AWWA awardees to be submitted to and be considered for the award at the National level.

Nomination or Submission Deadline
Recommendation by a VA AWWA or VWEA member through the submission of an online form submitted below. Entry form submission must be received by July 15th for consideration.

Award Committee Membership
The VA AWWA Board of Trustees shall serve as the Courageous Service Award judging committee.

Method of Selecting Award Recipient
The procedure for selecting an award recipient shall be as follows:

  1. The courageous service shall be brought to the attention of the VA AWWA Executive Director in the manner of online submission of the incident.
  2. The VA AWWA Executive Director shall investigate the courageous service and, if deemed worthy, shall be presented to the VA AWWA Board of Trustees at the August Board meeting for approval.

Frequency
Annually, if deserved.

Presentation of the Award
The Award shall be presented at the Awards Luncheon during the VA AWWA Annual Meeting (WaterJAM).
